Content standards
cmi5 is the runtime. Everything else converts to it.
Chiron Academy is built on cmi5 — the modern e-learning content specification that defines how course content communicates with the LMS during delivery. cmi5 is a profile built on top of xAPI (Experience API), which means every learner interaction — launch, progress, completion, pass/fail, termination — is recorded as a structured xAPI statement in a standardized, portable format.
cmi5 was developed to replace SCORM: it removes browser plugin dependencies, works across any delivery context, and produces richer, more reliable learning data. It is the only native runtime standard in Chiron Academy MVP.
For organizations with existing SCORM content libraries, Chiron Academy accepts SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004 packages at import and automatically converts them to cmi5. There is no manual conversion step, no separate tool, and no content rework required. Your existing library arrives as cmi5 on the other side — tracked, reported on, and fully integrated.
Supported content standards — MVP
Built on xAPI — the primary and only native delivery runtime. Every learner interaction is recorded as a structured xAPI statement.
Upload existing SCORM 1.2 packages and Chiron Academy converts them to cmi5 automatically at import — no manual rework required.
SCORM 2004 editions 2, 3, and 4 are accepted and converted to cmi5 at import, preserving completion and scoring logic.
cmi5 is a profile of xAPI — all cmi5 data is valid xAPI. Arbitrary raw xAPI statement recording beyond the cmi5 profile is planned for a future release.
cmi5 is maintained by the ADL Initiative (Advanced Distributed Learning) as the specification-layer successor to SCORM, using xAPI as its underlying transport and data format.
